International Conference on Mechanics of Complex Solids and Fluids (ICMCSF)

17 - 22 May 2015, Lille, France

Introduction
Welcome to the home page of the first International Conference on Mechanics of Complex Solids and Fluids (ICMCSF) that will take place on May 17th till 22th 2015 in Lille, France.

Scope
Engineering materials and manufacturing methods are essential to the technological and economic development of modern society. The understanding and prediction of materials mechanical behavior is crucial, in particular, to improve materials performance, to design materials with desirable microstructure and properties, to accelerate the moving of a novel material after initial discovery to the market, and to favor technological innovations in existing and emerging industrial sectors. This has an impact on all aspects in structures design, manufacturing and mechanical reliability of any type of engineering materials, including metals, ceramics, polymers, composites as well as the new cohort of advanced materials.

"Complex Fluids" is an established concept. But what do we mean by "Complex Solids"? All solid materials are intrinsically complex, provided to see all their complexity, e.g. time-dependence, coupled phenomena and multi-scale features. Progress in these fields requires to use/enrich/develop theoretical, computational and experimental approaches, separately or hand-in-hand.

ICMCSF’s objective is to offer a platform for researchers, engineers and industrials to meet and discuss recent research challenges on methods to characterize and model mechanical behavior of materials, both in fluid and in solid state, and structures. The objective is also to promote the transfer of knowledge between different disciplines that focus on the mechanics of complex solids and fluids, often from different viewpoints. ICMCSF will provide an excellent opportunity for scientists belonging to different communities (solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, rheology, materials engineering, etc.) to interact, engender new ideas and propose solutions for current cutting-edge technological problems. Contributions dealing with theoretical, computational and/or experimental approaches at macroscopic and microscopic scales are welcome.

Topics (not limited to the following):
- Time-dependent mechanics
- Coupled mechanics
- Multi-scale modeling
- Damage, fracture and fatigue
- Instrumentation and measurements at macro-scale
- Nano and micro-scale experiments

Bienvenue in Lille
Be amazed by the capital of the North of France! Alternately Flemish, Spanish and Austrian, Lille offers a rare compendium of architectural beauty, where Gothic cathedrals, colorful houses of Flemish architecture alongside modern architecture of the Euralille business district. With its modernity and dynamism, Lille has managed to rise to the level of European city, it was the capital in 2004. Real regional and European metropolis, it is less than 60 minutes from Paris, 35 minutes from Brussels and 80 minutes from London.
