Introduction
A 2-day conference ‘Science supporting trust in food’ will take place on 21-22 June 2016. Scientists, regulators, enforcement agencies, industry and policy makers are invited to join the Government Chemist for the 2016 conference at The Royal Society, London to discuss topics relating to food fraud, food authenticity and food safety.
The Government Chemist will open the conference before a keynote presentation by Professor Sir Mark Walport, Government Chief Scientific Adviser, on the recently published report ‘Forensic Science and beyond: authenticity, provenance and assurance’. The conference programme will link the themes of authenticity, safety and fraud in the food supply network and will include presentations on:
 
  • The Food Authenticity Network
  • Role of the UK customs laboratory in combating food and consumer goods fraud
  • Referee case outcomes
  • DNA sequencing for food authentication
  • FoodIntegrity.eu: a European resource for combating food fraud
  • Allergen detection and management.
The programme will include speakers from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, Food Standards Agency, Food Standards Scotland, Association of Public Analysts, Campden BRI, FERA, Leatherhead Food Research, LGC and MRC Human Nutrition Research Elsie Widdowson Laboratory.
