Secondary Chemistry TeachMeet

21 June 2016 17:00-19:30, Bolton, United Kingdom

Introduction
CPD and discussion sessions
  • Reducing scale, reducing cognitive load
A practical session with a brief introduction to the advantages of reducing experimental scale in terms of cognitive load, provision for students with SEND and behaviour management.
  • Revisiting revision
Reflecting on the revision period of 2016 and what works well as well as what may need to change in preparing students for the new GCSE chemistry.
  • The new chemistry GCSE - lessons from iGCSE certificate chemistry
Bolton School Boys' Division have been teaching AQA iGCSE certificate chemistry for a number of years.  This qualification will soon be discontinued as it is too similar to the new home GCSE from AQA.  This session will show the kinds of questions on the papers, especially the practically focused ones and also some ideas for how we have prepared the boys to tackle them in recent years.
  • Show and tell
A fun, interactive session for teachers to show off any good resources/learning techniques/experiments in short 'show and tell' slots.
