Next steps for reducing plastic waste: innovation, incentives and options for policy

6 December 2018 09:00, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
This seminar will focus on Government plans for reducing the amount of plastic waste in the UK.
With a range of policy initiatives in development, delegates will consider practicalities, priorities and options - including the proposed bans on single-use plastics products, the potential impact of a plastic bottle deposit return scheme and options for wider fiscal measures that could incentivise progress.
Sessions will also examine latest thinking on improving recycling rates - looking at developments in adopting new technologies and what more might be done to enhance local authority waste collection services - as well as notable examples of innovation and best practice.
We also expect discussion on issues around extended producer responsibility, supply chains, long-term behavioural change and wider environmental implications.
The discussion will be an opportunity to consider key themes emerging from the government consultation assessing the viability of tax incentives to tackle the use of single-use plastics, and takes place in the context of the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan, aiming to eliminate plastic waste by 2042.
