A Periodic Tale: 150 years and still up to date

10 September 2019 18:00-21:00, Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Introduction
It has been 150 years since Mendeleev presented the Periodic Table, and how successful it proved to be ! I will talk you through how laying out the elements in a systematic fashion is used to make predictions of properties that might otherwise be unexpected, using examples from my own work from group I -the alkali metals- through to phosphorus and it's similarities to carbon,as well as examples from the transition metals and compounds of uranium.

The event is aimed at all members and will include a Wine Reception after the talk as an opportuity for networking and a coffee/biscuits reception beforehand with some Chemistry themed Magic Tricks !
