Westminster Education Forum: Further Education college policy in England - funding, standards and profile of the sector

16 May 2013, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
At a time of considerable change for Further Education policy, this timely seminar focuses on the challenges and opportunities presented by recent and forthcoming Government reforms. It will bring together key policymakers with college leaders and other stakeholders central to the future operation of colleges in England.

Delegates will discuss how to raise the public profile and professional standing of FE colleges and those who teach within them, in light of the Final Report of the Independent Review Panel on Professionalism in Further Education, the recommendations of which included increased autonomy for the sector and the introduction of an FE Guild. The qualifications required by FE lecturers will also be addressed, following the Learning and Skills Improvement Service's FE Teacher and Trainer Qualifications Review.

Attendees will also examine the new funding arrangements for FE and their likely impact on colleges - including the proposed new funding formula for 16-19 learners and the introduction, from August 2013, of 24+ Advanced Learning Loans for adults seeking to take FE courses at Level 3 or above.
