Chemistry for Non-Chemists

19 - 20 February 2008, United Kingdom

Introduction
Aims of the course
This is the fourth course organised by the SCI Young Chemists' Panel on Chemistry for Non-Chemists. The aims of this course are to provide the participant with an opportunity to gain an understanding of the basic principles of organic and physical organic chemistry and their relation to drug molecules. Time has been included for tutorials to allow the participant an opportunity to gain a fuller understanding of the topics covered in the lectures through worked examples. As such the course has been extended to two days and is therefore residential. Detailed notes of every lecture and tutorials will be provided for each participant. Course Tutors will be: Dr Joe Harrity, University of Sheffield and Dr Chris Frost, University of Bath

Who is the course aimed at?
The course is therefore primarily targeted at scientists working in the pharmaceutical industry who have exposure to varying aspects of chemistry within their role and who work alongside organic chemists in project teams, e.g. bioscientists, pharmacists and process engineers. By the end of the course participants will be better placed to interact in a multi-disciplined environment with their project chemists.
