SDG Annual meeting: Oxford 18-20 December 2006
The conference began on the evening of Monday 18 December 2006 with two tutorial lectures aimed particularly, but by no means exclusively, at graduate students. Peter Bernath (University of York) spoke about "Molecular Astronomy" and Katharine Reid (University of Nottingham) gave an "Insight into excited state intramolecular dynamics using laser-based photoelectron techniques".
On Tuesday and Wednesday the meeting involved the traditional mix of invited lectures together with both oral and poster contributions. A record number of contributions were received which meant that the time for talks had to be reduced to fifteen minutes in order to fit as many into the conference programme as possible.
The invited speakers at the meeting were:
Jan Verlet (Durham University) "Dynamics of the excess electron in water and methanol cluster anions"
Steen Nielsen (Aarhus Universitet) "Photoexcitation of nucleotides in a storage ring: statistical vs. nonstatistical dissociation"
Pat Vaccaro (Yale University) "Lifting the Veil of Solvation: The Optical Activity of Isolated Organic Molecules"
Full details can be found in the meeting programme and a short report is available in the Group's Newsletter (#1 2007).
