Section No. 50

Welcome to the Manchester Section, the oldest Local Section after Liverpool, both of which were formed in 1918.

The Manchester Section serves the area of Greater Manchester and outlying areas, such as High Peak, Macclesfield and Northwich. With four universities in the area, several further education colleges and a still significant chemical industry, the Section has more than 2000 members.

The Committee seeks ways to promote chemistry and provide interesting events for members and their families. An average of three events a month range across schools lectures, demonstrations and competitions, skills training for teachers, scientific lectures and competitions for undergraduates, public lectures, social activities, charitable and professional affairs.

The Committee also supports RSC initiatives such as Chemistry Week, Chemistry at Work, My Next Move, careers & employment guidance, and retirement seminars.

The parent committee has 5 sub-committees, covering Scientific, Educational, Professional, Social and Younger Members activities, so there is ample opportunity for any RSC chemist to help as a Committee and/or a sub-committee member. Why not attend a committee meeting in Manchester to see what is going on? All that is necessary is to contact the Hon. Secretary who will give details and ensure refreshments are available.
