2018 Chemical Sciences Apprentice of the Year Winner
Awarded for the development of a method for determining solubility of organic solutes in organic solvents and its application in the AstraZeneca drug portfolio.
I was born in Middlewich and moved to Sandbach at the age of 11 so that I could attend Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College. During this time, I participated in STEM Challenges and represented my school at the Big Bang. I was also involved in the school's CAUC electric car team that built and raced cars around the country for which we won the IET Formula 24 and 24+ Championships on several occasions.
After completing my A-Levels I started my Pharmaceutical Development Apprenticeship at the Macclesfield site of AstraZeneca in September 2016. I joined the Catalysis, Continuous and Applied Technologies Team and at the same time I began studying towards my FdSc in Chemical Science at Manchester Metropolitan University. Along with my day job I am a school outreach partner raising awareness of STEM careers and apprenticeships and I also represent my department on the Apprentice Council.
