Awarded for ground-breaking contributions to the chemistry and magnetic properties of f-element compounds

About the Winner

Dave hails from Llanbradach and Caerphilly in the South Wales valleys. He obtained both his MChem (2004) and PhD (2008) degrees from Cardiff University. His PhD in low oxidation state gallium chemistry was supervised by Prof. Cameron Jones (now at Monash University). In 2008 he moved to the University of Nottingham to spend nearly five years as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Steve Liddle (now at the University of Manchester) working on f-element-carbon multiple bonding interactions.

In 2012 Dave commenced his independent academic career at the University of Manchester and he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2017. The current research interests of his group are focused on the synthesis of f-element complexes with precise geometrical features in order to maximise selected physicochemical properties, such as reactivity and magnetism.
