Teamwork in Innovation Award

The Teamwork in Innovation Award is to reward and promote innovation and creativity through teamwork in industry.

Rules and Criteria

Run annually

• Nominations must be for a team rather than for an individual
• Open to UK based teams only
• Teams can be based in industry or academia.  Academically-based teams should have some form of industrial involvement or should involve work on a project with commercial potential
• Candidates are NOT permitted to nominate themselves
• A two page supporting statement addressing the selection criteria should be submitted
• Nominations open 1 September 2012
• Nominations close 15 January 2013
• Award winner will be chosen by the Industry & Technology Forum Awards Committee
• Award winner receives £4000, a memento and a certificate        

About the award

This award is in recognition of collaborative team work to achieve an innovative solution or process.

The award is open to teams of any size working in industry, academia, or collaboratively between the two. The project may be a discrete part of a larger, on-going industrial programme or stand alone in its own right. Examples of valid applications might be the innovation and development of a new chemistry based product or process or obtaining a substantial yield improvement by a novel technique.

Judging is undertaken by an experienced panel of entrepreneurs and industrialists and the award is given at a special awards dinner.

The assessment panel will employ the following criteria (in no particular order):

1. Demonstration of innovation and commercial potential
2. Bulk of the innovation carried out in the UK (does not rule out international cooperation)
3. Evidence of awareness of market need and targeting
4. Structure of the project team and evidence of teamwork
5. Scientific depth of the project and level of chemical innovation 

The 2 page supporting statement should include:

• The size and nature of the organisation where the work was carried out
• The rationale for the work
• The scale of effort in terms of manpower, time and materials
• The contributions made by the various team members
• The technical, environmental or other benefits arising from the work
• Sufficient information to enable to assessors to compare submissions that are likely to be vastly different from each other 

There is no requirement for detailed technical or commercial data and applicants can be reassured that complete confidentiality is guaranteed.
