RSC response to the House of Commons inquiry into the closure of the Forensic Science Service
14 February 2011
The RSC responded to House of Commons Science & Technology Select Committee inquiry into the proposed closure of the Forensic Science Service (FSS). The response outlined the UK's position as a world leader in the provision of Forensic Science Services. In particular, the FSS has a recognised track record as a leading provider of analysis and interpretation of evidence from crime scenes and plays a critical role in the provision of forensic services from the crime scene to the court room. The RSC response outlines the need for sustained investment in research and development to continue advances in the fight against crime and increasingly, terrorism, to produce lower detection limits, enhance specificity of detection techniques and to ensure that new designer drug, and explosives residues can be detected.
