In June 2010 the coalition government announced its plans for the £1 billion Regional Growth Fund. The aims of this fund are to encourage private sector enterprise and capacity, and therefore create opportunities for the people and places adjusting to the reductions in public spending.

The Royal Society of Chemistry welcomed the opportunity to respond to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills' (BIS) consultation on the design of the £1 billion Regional Growth Fund. The response details the sectors and industries that the RSC believes the fund should look to support.
