Dr Onwudili is a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the School of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, Aston University, Birmingham, UK. Dr Onwudili’s unique skills-set enables him to play a key research role at the interface of the related disciplines of chemical science and chemical engineering. His job involves teaching, research, peer-reviewing of grant applications and journal submissions, dissemination of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presentation of research at international conferences, writing grant applications, research project management and mentoring/pastoral care of students.
Dr Onwudili has research and teaching expertise in bioenergy and waste-to-energy including thermochemical processing of biomass and wastes, synthesis and application of catalysts and advanced analytical techniques. He has particular interests in hydrothermal gasification (HTG), hydrothermal oxidation (HTO) and aqueous-phase (hydrothermal) reforming (APR). His work has contributed, among others, to the understanding of the mechanisms of formation of gas-forming intermediates during HTG of biomass with homogeneous base catalysts. In his recent work, he has demonstrated the effectiveness of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts during HTG of biomass for selective production of renewable hydrogen and methane.
