The promoter of this prize draw is the Royal Society of Chemistry (incorporated in England by Royal Charter (Registered No. RC000524) and Registered Charity (Charity No. 207890)) with a registered address at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BA (“the Promoter”).

The prize draw is open to anyone over the age of 18, who enters the prize draw via SweepWidget when using their social media account on X (formally Twitter), Facebook or Instagram.

The entry limit is one entry per person.

By submitting an entry, you confirm that you are over 18 years of age and that you agree to these terms and conditions.

To enter the prize draw, you need to complete the requirements for the social media platform that you are entering. These requirements are stated on SweepWidget. You must complete these requirements in full before the closing deadlines.

All entries that do not comply with these terms and conditions will be automatically disqualified.

The prize is an electronic copy of a popular science book published by the Promoter. The titles of the Promotor’s popular science books are available to view via:
https://books.rsc.org/books/collection/7405/Popular-Science. There are 5 books that will be awarded to the winners of the prize draw, with each winner choosing 1 book and receiving an electronic copy of it.

The prize draw closes at midnight GMT on 31st December 2023 with the winning entries drawn by the Promoter on 3rd January 2024 using a computer programme to randomly generate the winners.

The winners will be notified by message on 3rd January 2023 via the social media account that they entered the prize draw with. If any winner does not claim the prize within 30 days of being notified, then they will forfeit the prize and the Promoter will perform a re-draw. The Promoter will keep performing re-draws until the maximum number of prizes have been awarded (as set out in clause 7).

To claim the prize the winner must follow the instructions in the message notifying them that they have won a prize, which includes opening up an account on https://books.rsc.org. The prize will be made available for access to the winner no later than 30 days after they claim the prize. When the winner wants to access the prize, they will need to log onto their https://books.rsc.org account.

No responsibility will be accepted by the Promoter for incomplete, illegible or lost entries, or entries not received for any reason.

In the event of any dispute, the Promoter's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

The Promoter shall have no liability to the winner or any third party for any inability of the winner to claim the prize or to take the full benefit of it as a result of these terms and conditions, or for any other reason.

The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and is not redeemable for cash or other prizes.

The Promoter may modify or withdraw the prize draw at any time without warning.

The Promoter may replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond the Promoter's control make it necessary to do so.

The Promoter will process personal data as set out in our privacy statement, and as set out in these terms and conditions.

The Details of the winner will be available for up to six weeks after the closing date by emailing the Promoter. Each winner agrees to have their surname, county/state/region and country disclosed for this purpose. If you object to any or all of your surname, county/state/region and country being made available if you are a winner, please contact the Promoter as soon as possible after entering the prize draw by emailing the Promoter. In such circumstances, the Promoter must still provide the information to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.

Employees of the Royal Society of Chemistry, or the Royal Society of Chemistry’s associated companies, and employees of any agents or any third party directly associated with the administration of the prize draw, are not eligible to participate.

These terms and conditions are governed by English law.

If any entrants to the prize draw wish to enter into court proceedings in relation to the prize draw, then they must do so within the courts of England and Wales.
