Complete Hands-on GC and GC-MS (5 Individual or Joint Days) (Practical)

28 September - 2 October 2015, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom

Introduction
Complete Hands-on GC & GC-MS
(5 days)

This course is written by Anthias Consulting Ltd and led by one of their highly qualified trainers.

This is a hands-on, in-depth course that will provide you with both the practical experience and the theory, to enable you to fully understand and work effectively with your GC and GC-MS instruments. On this course you will develop the confidence and ability to troubleshoot your instrument, carry out essential maintenance on it and use it to develop robust, reproducible and suitable applications. This course can be attended as individual day modules.

Who should take this course?

The Complete Hands-on GC & GC-MS course is for those who have a basic knowledge of gas chromatography and would like to greatly enhance it. This course focuses on the practical aspects of GC & GC-MS with at least 50% of the course being ‘hands-on’in front of a GC instrument. For complete beginners it is advisable to first attend the one day Absolute Basics of GC & GC-MS course.

What does it cover?

This course provides the essential theory of the GC and the MS, along with an indispensable‘hands-on’ practical element to reinforce the theoretical knowledge. This course is 50% theory and 50% practical in a lab environment.

This course addresses:-
• Gases and plumbing
• Sample introduction
• Analytical columns
• GC detectors (FID and ECD)
• Massspectrometry
• Data analysis

The knowledge gained on this course will be used during the practicals to help delegates create methods, perform injections and change parameters to understand the effects these have. The course discusses the need for maintenance and provides practical experience ofthis on both a GC and a GC-MS system, including liquid autosamplers, inlets, columns and detectors, such as FID/ECD and quadrupole MS (including tuning and ion source cleaning). A full day is spent on troubleshooting a GC or GC-MS instrument and learning what problems can occur, with real problem solving on the instruments and data analysis software.

This course isapproved by the Royal Society of Chemistry for purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
