The analytical science and regulation of pharmaceutical packaging

3 December 2009, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
Packaging plays a critical role in the presentation, distribution and protection
of drug products, as well as for patient convenience and compliance. Higher
regulatory and quality controls are required for pharmaceutical packaging,
especially for products such as those administered by the intravenous or
inhaled routes which not only rely on packaging for product integrity or
functionality but present a greater risk to patients from packaging leachables.
A good understanding of packaging effects can also lead to reductions in
stability testing requirements and to longer shelf lives.
This symposium will examine the current regulatory landscape for
pharmaceutical packaging and the analytical strategies to assess the quality,
safety and efficacy of product packaging.
