IDS11 - 11th International Dendrimers Symposium

14 - 18 July 2019, Funchal, Portugal

Introduction
Dear Colleagues,

It is a great privilege and pleasure to welcome you to the IDS11 - 11th International Dendrimers Symposium in Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal, organized by the Madeira Chemistry Research Centre (CQM) - University of Madeira (UMa), from 14th to 18th of July 2019.

Being held every two years, the IDS is the most important worldwide conference devoted to the latest developments concerning design, synthesis and application of dendrimers and dendritic polymers. In 2019, and for the first time, the IDS11 will be organized in Madeira Island, Portugal, bringing the most important experts and well-known international specialists in the dendritic polymer field, succeeding the previous one held in China in 2017.

The Islands of Madeira and Porto Santo were officially discovered by the Portuguese navigators Tristão Vaz Teixeira, Bartolomeu Perestrelo and João Gonçalves Zarco in 1419, being considered the first territorial discovery of the “Portuguese Age of Discovery”. Madeira Island has a subtropical-Mediterranean climate, with the “Laurisilva” forest recognized by UNESCO as a natural World Heritage Site and more than 2000 km of "levadas" (aqueducts that carry water from the north coast of the Island to the agricultural regions in the south), attracting tourists from all over the world throughout the year.

Moreover, Madeira Island has also become a destination where people come to work and live in a safe and beautiful environment. The Island is well-served by infrastructures (international airport, roads, industrial free zone, hospitals, university) and is well-connected to the Portuguese mainland and all the main European cities. Funchal, the capital and principal city of Madeira Island, displays a beautiful and natural amphitheatre of houses over the sea. The six centuries of history have transformed the town into a very charming place to visit, also remaining very open to modernity. Together with the most emblematic building that survives from the early period of Madeira colonization (the Gothic Cathedral from the late fifteenth-century), this town is surrounded by views of white villas, tropical gardens, modern buildings and a stunning sea view with modern cruise ships and ancient boats.

Come share with us your knowledge and experience in the field of dendrimers... bring your students and family… and enjoy Madeira Island!
