IYPT 2019 Public Lecture: Winchester

4 May 2019 14:00-15:00, Winchester, United Kingdom

Introduction
In celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT 2019), the Royal Society of Chemistry is organising a series of talks at science centres, universities and other venues across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Aimed at the public and established chemists alike, the IYPT Lectures will feature some of the most exciting science communicators in the field of chemistry, whose talks will bring the periodic table of elements to life.

The first in our series of Public Lectures in celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table, this event, organised in collaboration with Winchester Fashion Week, promises to fascinate anyone with an interest in chemistry, history or fashion.

About the lecture

When major scientific discoveries occur they can revolutionise entire industries, with huge impact on our wider society. The accidental discovery of Mauveine, by 18-year-old chemistry student William Henry Perkin in 1856, was one such breakthrough.

The Winchester edition, 'Mauveine: a landmark dyestuff of the Victorian industrial revolution', will be given by Emeritus Professor Henry Rzepa and Dr Peter Morris on 4/5/2019, at The Nutshell.

The talk will start at 14:00. We encourage you to arrive 15 minutes before the advertised start time in order to get a seat. IYPT Lectures are generally timed to last from 40 - 50 minutes.

Attendance at this event is free and does not require registration. Simply come along!
