Disasters in the Petrochemical Industry and how to prevent them

25 September 2019 18:00-20:30, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
The Petrochemical Industry has been plagued with disasters throughout its long history. Whilst it serves society and provides substantial benefits this all comes at a cost in human lives, environmental pollution and to the wider economy. Why do these disasters keep happening? What have we learned from them? How do we stop them recurring and how do we organise ourselves to systematically drive down their frequency?

The lecture will examine a few key accidents and draw themes from the common learnings. It will then focus on the practical means of prevention and examine the way forward to prevent such disasters from happening again.

This is a free event organised by the RSC Marketing Group, which promotes Advances in Chemical Science and Technology. Refreshments will be provided from 18:00 onwards with the talk commencing at 18:30.  This will be followed by networking including soft drinks, wine and a selection of cheeses after the event, which is expected to finish approx 20:00.
