Conference on Advances in Catalysis for Energy and Environment (CACEE -2022) & CO2India Network 1st Annual Meet

31 October 2022 14:00 - 4 November 2022 15:00, Mumbai, India

Introduction
Climate change due to excessive carbon dioxide (CO2) is the “Most Serious Problem Mankind Has Ever Faced”. Climate change hits a giant weak spot in human history.

Disproportionate use (or misuse) of natural resources, including fossil fuels, created an extreme imbalance on planet earth and the first priority of all of us to take on this challenge.  An excessive amount of CO2 is the main cause of climate change, and hence, its reduction from the Earth’s atmosphere is key to stop further degradation of the environment. The best approach is not the capture of CO2 but rather its conversion to fuel, where CO2 can act as a carbon feedstock with zero cost. On the other hand, a sustainable way to solve the energy problem is to generate alternative energy sources such as renewal electricity by using solar cells or hydrogen by conducting photo- or electrocatalytic water splitting. However, issues pertaining to the storage of electricity and hydrogen gas have made it difficult for these technologies to be developed.

These challenges are becoming the main concerns of the global vision of the societal challenges and the world economy. Nanomaterials and Catalysts are essential for modern society as they can resolve these critical challenges.

1st  conference, CACEE-2018, took place at TIFR, Mumbai, on January 10-12, 2018, with total participants of 250 and 45 Invited Speakers around the globe (http://www.tifr.res.in/~cacee/). 2nd conference, CACEE-2020 was virtual due to the Covid pandemic and was organized at TIFR, Hyderabad (https://cacee2020.tifrh.res.in/).

We recently formed INDIA’S CARBON CAPTURE & UTILIZATION NETWORK (CO2INDIA). The key aim of this network is to connect everyone in India (faculty, scientists, postdocs, students, industry researchers, etc.) working in CO2  and energy research. We now have ~ 1000 members from almost all institutes (IITs, IISERs, CSIR labs, etc.) and several industries. (https://www.co2india.org/)

In the proposed 3rd conference of this series, CACEE-2022, together with “CO2India Network 1st Annual Meet”, we hope to bring together active researchers in the areas of catalysis and carbon capture-utilization to provide the impetus needed to this vibrant field of research by interfacing different branches of catalysis and material sciences in one platform.
