Introduction
Talk by John Bennett, member of the Geological Society, about the history of the Society from its foundation in 1807 as the first of its kind in the World. Topics covered will include the Dining Club set up in the early days of the Society and the first geological map of "England and Wales with part of Scotland" produced by William Smith in 1815. After a buffet lunch with wine there will be an opportunity to visit the Society`s rooms and view various artifacts including William Smith`s original map..
