The Railway Chemists

27 February 2013, Belfast, United Kingdom

Introduction
Chemists were first employed as consultants by the railways from the earliest days, and later they acted as full-time employees in railway company laboratories. When the railways were privatised in 1996, British Rail still owned four chemistry laboratories. This lecture describes the role chemists played in the development and running of the railway system in Britain.
