Symposium Information

Almost every product produced is usually a blend of more than one ingredient and therefore can be defined as a formulation. It is this blending of materials which improves efficiency and performance. The skill of mixing the right ingredients in the right order with an optimised process to give the desired product and then analysing the resultant material is known as Formulation Science and Technology.

Due to recent changes in public opinions and government policy, industrialists and academics have been forced to look at new formulations which are "green" and sustainable. But what does "green" and sustainable mean and how have these issues been addressed?

The overall aim of symposia is to focus on the complex chemistry behind these new formulations and processes and the key speakers will address the issue of what "green" and renewable means in formulation science.

It will be split into sessions covering some of the topics which are being addressed in Formulating for the Green Renewable Age:

  • Development of new manufacturing processes which may be less energy intensive or reduce chemical inputs such as hydrocarbon solvents
  • New renewable materials from sustainable resources
