Support for chemistry education and research at all levels is a key part of our mission to advance excellence in the chemical sciences; we achieve this via our schools partnerships and our support to universities with their research, learning and funding and our accreditation of degrees courses at 70 universities worldwide.
Supporting businesses linked to the chemical sciences is also a key priority. Depending on the size and direction of your company, we have resources and expertise to enhance your reputation, develop your staff and accelerate your innovation and grow your business.

Teach Chemistry is a free programme. It is quick and easy to register and anyone who works at a secondary school, college or teacher training institution in the UK and Ireland is eligible.
Support for primary schools
To help primary school teachers give their students the best grounding in science, we offer a range of support, including:
- local education coordinators who regularly visit primary teacher networks;
- collaborations with partners specialising in primary education (such as the Primary Science Quality Mark and the Primary Science Teaching Trust); and
- classroom resources suited to primary school age children.
Support for international schools
We want to help all teachers everywhere feel confident, knowledgeable and inspired so that all students have access to an excellent chemistry education.
International teachers and technicians can sign up for a free personal account on our education website. This gives unlimited access to all our education resources and articles from Education in Chemistry, as well as the ability to bookmark resources and articles so you can easily find them again, year on year.
We aim to ensure adequate funding and support for cutting edge research, high quality teaching programmes and excellent laboratory facilities.
Supporting individuals within chemistry higher education is an important part of the work we do, but we also work with our community at an institutional level in a variety of ways.
Support for teaching and research
One of the major channels through which we support universities is through our policy and research work, from ensuring you have the funding you need for the provision of high quality teaching to assessing the impact of immigration law on chemistry staff and students.
To support UK university chemistry departments in making their own policies, we have created a flexible, online data platform that provides information on chemistry staff, students and funding in the UK. We can provide bespoke information for individual departments on request.
We also provide health, safety and environmental guidance that universities can use to identify chemical hazards and risks and manage their laboratories safely. This sits alongside a host of other tools and resources through Learn Chemistry that support teaching and learning within universities.
See what our wide range of journals, books and eBooks, databases and magazines has to offer your institution's staff and students. The portfolio spans the breadth of the chemical sciences, from general chemistry to materials science and biophysics, with thousands of the highest quality research articles free to access. Our commitment to advancing the chemical sciences also means all profits from publishing activities are put back into serving the chemistry community.
We also hold workshops to discuss best practice in diversity to enhance your institution's application for Athena SWAN status.
How is this different from ‘degree accreditation'?
Doctoral training accreditation provides assurance and recognition for the skills-development elements within a doctoral programme. We typically accredit Centres for Doctoral Training and other formalised development programmes such as those delivered through a university’s Graduate School. Training and development activities are mapped against the attributes for Registered Scientist (which students may gain during their PhD) and Chartered Chemist, Chartered Biologist or Chartered Physicist. This accreditation gives participating students a head start on their journey towards chartership, and helps them build a portfolio of evidence towards evidencing key employability skills.
The fee for accreditation is £3000 which covers the one-off assessment of the application and site visit and expenses. There is a fee for accreditation of £2000 for every year accredited. This covers all disciplines involved in the doctoral programme.
Our partners
Working closely with our sister professional bodes, the Royal Society of Biology and the Institute of Physics we have ensured that expectations of chartership across the sciences are comparable.
We have streamlined our processes so getting your programme accredited is simpler.
This post-graduate accreditation programme has been integrated with Vitae’s Researcher Development Framework. This gives you confidence in how skills development and recognition aligns with core skills essential to researchers.

Promote your training courses to our worldwide community of chemical science professionals by gaining Royal Society of Chemistry approval.
For a competitive fee, courses are assessed by subject experts against a broad set of criteria. Approved training courses are listed on our database and advertised in Chemistry World.
We are supporting small- and medium-sized companies to access training for their employees by providing training vouchers and highlighting approved training courses to them.
We ask that training providers offer a discount of at least 10% to members of the Royal Society of Chemistry when booking an approved course.
