One of the Special Collections generously donated to the Royal Society of Chemistry is the Sugar Collection donated by Professor J P Ogilvie (1881-1953).  Professor Ogilivie was the son of a well-known sugar refiner and became an authority on the subject of sugar himself.  He became a Fellow of the Chemical Society in 1912 and later presented a number of valuable books on sugar chemistry to the Society.

The collection is comprised of 347 books and pamphlets; the oldest item is from 1752 An Essay on Sugar by E Comyns.  As shown in the same bibliography that follows, researchers wishing to study the history & chemistry of sugar will find a wealth of knowledge on the topic in this collection.
