My research interests are nanochemistry and supramolecular chemistry. Molecular self-assembly is a central theme of my research, with a focus on structure and function. Recent research activities deal with a large variety of aspects in molecular self-assembly, ranging from what one could call two-dimensional crystal engineering (e.g. formation nanoporous surfaces, chirality at interfaces), templating, dynamics and reactivity, aiming at the formation and exploitation of functional surfaces. The liquid-solid interface is my preferred environment to induce self-assembly, and scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy techniques are very useful to probe the structural and electronic properties of these self-assembled molecular systems.
