Beating the Superbugs

18 September 2014, Orpington, Greater London, United Kingdom

Introduction
Antibiotic, or antimicrobial, resistant organisms are killing 25,000 people a year across Europe - almost the same number of people who die in road traffic accidents. As microbes (i.e. bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi) continue to develop resistance, and the flow of new antimicrobials is diminishing, there is now a real threat to human health.
To help better understand this topic, this ChemNet event will explore the barriers to new antimicrobials, ensuring appropriate use of current drugs, making sure that money is invested in tackling superbugs and, why antimicrobial resistance is a global issue.
Speakers Professor Barry Cookson and Dr James Spencer.
