Two researchers at Novozymes explain how nature, in this case fungi, can help unlock the secrets to developing new bio-based products and processes; from washing detergents, to the dyes used in manufacturing our jeans.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

EuropaBio is the European Association for Bioindustries and was created in 1996 to provide a voice for the biotech industry in Europe. Our mission is to promote an innovative and dynamic biotechnology-based industry in Europe.
Industrial Biotechnology is a key enabler of biobased industries. It helps to produce enzymes and micro-organisms to make bio-based products from renewable raw materials in sectors as diverse as chemicals, food and feed, detergents, paper and pulp, textile, biofuels or bioplastics. The ultimate aim of bio-based industries is to help keep Europe competitive, innovative and prosperous by providing sustainable, smart and inclusive economic growth and jobs, and by meeting the needs of a growing population whilst protecting our environment and resources. This means an economy based, besides food and feed, increasingly on biomass derived fuel, chemicals, and materials, sustainably sourced and produced, as an alternative to our heavy reliance on finite fossil fuel resources.
