It is important that we clearly demonstrate how we advance excellence in the chemical sciences – whether it’s reporting on how we are achieving our strategy to the Charity Commission, explaining what that strategy is to potential partners, or celebrating with our members the great successes we have shared.
Reports
Previous reports
Our gender pay gap report
Reporting our gender pay gap has been a useful opportunity to review the impacts of work we have been doing to remove barriers to progression for every role throughout our organisation.
We were able to re-examine where there might be disproportionate representation of women or men and how the actions we have taken to facilitate equality of access and progression might be having an impact on our gender pay gap.
We have reaffirmed our commitment to doing more to understand the wider societal issues which may be contributing to our gender pay gap, and to continue to open up equality of opportunity for all roles while remaining fair and inclusive in everything we do.
Our diversity data report
High quality data and evidence is essential to improving inclusion and diversity in the chemical sciences. If we are to ensure talented people thrive and progress in chemistry, we need much greater transparency in reporting the data that gives us insight into the barriers people face – and the ways we can remove them.
As we examine the data in the wider chemical sciences, we must examine our own activities, and the extent to which they are representative of the entire chemical sciences community. Our RSC diversity data reports are collections of data that cross the breadth of our organisational activity – from membership, education, publishing, grants and much more.

Prizes
The Royal Society of Chemistry has been giving awards for 150 years, with the majority of its prize portfolio consisting of traditional medals given for excellence in research. Following the independent review of its recognition programmes Re-thinking recognition: Science prizes for the modern world, we have announced plans to modernise our awards programme, restructuring our portfolio to reflect modern science and ensure its relevance into the future.
We have made an application to the Charity Commission for its consent to consolidate 30 of the trust funds supporting our awards into a single consolidated award fund for the purpose of recognition in chemical science and its application. The fund will continue to be used to deliver suitable awards, which may be varied over time to keep pace with developments in science and society. The overall effect of this change will be to empower the trustees of the RSC to take decisions about the best way to evolve our scientific recognition programme in order to achieve our overall purpose of advancing chemical science and its application.
The award funds which are the subject of the application are set out in the table below. If you have any comments regarding our proposals, we would be pleased to hear from you. Please contact us using the box below.
