RSC Platinum

Platinum is the RSC's signature open access agreement designed to support a fully OA future. The benefit covers access to all journals and a waiver of the Article Processing Charges to publish open access articles in all RSC journals for the corresponding authors from the institute. APCs are instead covered by the institution’s library.

Yes, as this is our first year of the new agreement, we will be happy to consider waiving any fees that were applicable for articles (open access only) which were accepted for the publication period starting January 2023 till the end of this year. This is only applicable to institutes that have RSC Platinum agreement.

Yes, every corresponding author from the institute can publish open access articles with no APCs across all the RSC Journals. Your institute library has the RSC Platinum agreement for the same and APCs are covered or paid for.

The choice belongs to the author whether they choose to publish an open access article. This choice is only available for our hybrid portfolio of journals. For our Gold open access portfolio all articles are always published open access.

Yes, authors can publish open access in our hybrid journals portfolio too. The system will need your permission to do so.

After acceptance, corresponding authors will be notified on screen in our licence system that they are eligible for the agreement and that they can publish open access with no APC to pay. Please make sure you are the corresponding author assigned in our submission system and that you use your institutional email address to submit your article, this is how we identify you as eligible.  

No. You can relax in the knowledge that there are no other hidden costs or charges associated with RSC Platinum for authors.
