Funding and Grants
The funding we offer is designed to support both Royal Society of Chemistry members and the wider scientific community.
Funding is available to scientists in Africa to broaden their skills base, undertake research, attend conferences and network with colleagues in other countries. Below are the most relevant opportunities for our community in Africa.
Some schemes are only open to members of the Royal Society of Chemistry, but it’s simple to join. Membership is open to all those engaged in the chemical sciences.
The Research Fund
The Research Fund provides up to £4,000 for those at a university or college to purchase chemicals and/or equipment for a research project. We prioritise those working in less well-funded institutes, those in developing countries and early career researchers. Open to members of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Researcher Mobility Grants
These grants support PhD or early career researchers to undertake scientific visits. Supporting the cost of travel, accommodation and day-to-day living, we can provide up to £5,000 to make single or multiple scientific visits between UK and overseas institutions. Open to members of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Conference Travel Grants
Our Divisions are keen to support PhD students and early career scientist participation in scientific conferences and workshops where applicants give presentations. They offer grants to cover domestic (up to £200), continental (up to £400) and intercontinental (up to £800) travel to scientific conferences. Applicants will need to have been Royal Society of Chemistry members (at least Associate level) for at least one year.
Scientific Meetings Grant
Apply for up to £2,000 towards running or enhancing a scientific meeting you’ve planned, or get full support for a ‘no frills’ research meeting or workshop with this grant. Applicants must be a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Division that represents their application’s subject area.
Analytical Science Scholarships
If you’re working in analytical science in part of the developing world, this scholarship (run by our Analytical Division) is an opportunity to visit the UK or Ireland to acquire new skills or knowledge that would have a practical impact on your country. Unless already a member, scholars should apply for membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry and its Analytical Division within one month of the commencement of the scholarship.
