Our unique international discussion meetings focus on rapidly developing areas of the physical sciences, with a focus on physical chemistry and its interfaces with other scientific disciplines. For over 100 years and 300 meetings, Faraday Discussions have been at the forefront of physical chemistry, and many have become landmark meetings in their field.

Faraday Loving Cup
The Loving Cup, known as the Marlow Cup, was purchased out of funds raised by an appeal to members of the Faraday Society to commemorate Mr G W S Marlow, Secretary and editor of the Society from 1928 to 1947. The Cup, dating from 1728, is silver and is reputedly by the lady silversmith Heslie Fawdery. It bears a crest of which nothing is known and no inscription was added by the Faraday Society.
The Cup is used at Faraday Discussions on the occasion of the Conference Dinner to toast the memory of Mr Marlow, Angela and Tony Fish, and the Faraday Division. It is then passed around the assembled company in the traditional manner.
The Faraday Joint Interest Group Conference is a showcase for UK physical chemistry research.
Organised by Faraday Community for Physical Chemistry and related Interest Groups, the conference aims to highlight excellent research, and to build strong networks and collaborations within the community.
The next iteration of the conference will take place in person in Sheffield on 3-5 April 2023.
The Recent Appointees in Physical Chemistry (RAPC) meeting is an opportunity for recently appointed researchers in the field of physical chemistry to form a collaborative community, share experiences, and create a network of support.
Participants get the chance to interact with others at a similar career stage, and learn about a variety of research spanning the breadth of physical chemistry. Previous meetings have also included other discussions that are relevant to recently appointed scientists, for example the funding landscape, innovations in teaching, and managing teams.
The 2022 Recent Appointees in Physical Chemistry meeting will take place on 6-8 September in York.
