The Organic Chemistry Community Council is committed to regional meetings as an important route to involve younger members at the local level. Covering the UK and Ireland, the meetings take place between December and May every year and are organised by a host institution within the region.
The speakers include RSC Prize winners, and researchers from industry and academia. Importantly, the meetings give the opportunity for early career chemists to present their research. This important activity is an excellent way for researchers within a region to meet and network, and to hear progress in organic chemistry research.

National Organic Symposium Trust (NOST)
National Organic Symposium Trust (NOST) collaboration
The Organic Chemistry Community supports established organic chemists in academia and industry based in the UK and Ireland to participate in the Organic Chemistry Conference of the National Organic Symposium Trust (NOST-OCC).
The Organic Chemistry Community also supports a delegation of PhD students based in the UK and Ireland to participate in the J-NOST meeting. J-NOST meetings, comprised primarily of PhD students, provide a fantastic opportunity for young researchers to network and share work with chemists from a diverse range of scientific backgrounds within the Indian chemical community.
Organic Chemistry Poster Symposium
The annual poster symposium is the Organic Chemistry Community’s flagship event for early career researchers. Dedicated to posters, the competitive symposium provides a fantastic opportunity for final year organic chemistry PhD students based in the UK and Ireland, working on any area related to organic chemistry – in its broadest interpretation. to showcase their research and network with peers and representatives from industry and academia.
The symposia is held every December and showcases the top 40 submitted abstracts (as selected by the Scientific Organising Committee) across all areas of organic chemistry, across all applications including, but not limited to:
- Organic synthesis
- Physical and theoretical organic chemistry
- Chemical biology and bioorganic chemistry
- Medicinal chemistry
- Supramolecular, macromolecular and organic materials
- Polymer chemistry
- Green chemistry
- Natural products
