GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title Attempt: Largest Practical Science Lesson
As part of the inaugural Northern Ireland Science Festival we are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest practical science lesson.
We’ve invited well over a thousand local primary school children to take part at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Tuesday 24 February, from 9.30am-1pm.
Organisers on the day include members of the Royal Society of Chemistry NI local section, the British Council, organisers of the NI Science Festival, as well as over 100 local volunteers who are passionate about promoting science to young people.
Local primary schools have been invited to take part in a massive enquiry-based lesson and try their hand at solving a "crime" using science. Students will also have the opportunity to talk to STEM ambassadors, and watch a W5 Science Show.
This event is run by the Royal Society of Chemistry, sponsored by the British Council and forms part of the inaugural Northern Ireland Science Festival, an 11-day festival, taking place from 19 February to 1 March.
Overall, more than 100 events will occur across Northern Ireland including venues such as the BBC, W5, Titanic Belfast, the Black Box, the Nerve Centre and the Ulster Museum. The aim of the festival is to celebrate this region's rich scientific heritage and to engage our next generation of scientists and technology professionals.
The NI Science Festival is funded by the Department of Employment and Learning, Belfast City Council, Queen's University, Ulster University and the British Council.
