University of Macau strikes deal to join our growing global Open Access community
The Royal Society of Chemistry has expanded the geographical range of its Open Access community by striking a deal with the University of Macau.
This transformative agreement will support our OA ambitions by expanding the global range of partners and aiding the university in its own efforts.
The addition of Macau takes the total number of countries and regions in which we have partner organisations up to 41. More than 1,300 institutions around the world now benefit from the RSC's OA agreements.
The University of Macau is a primarily English-speaking university with more than 10,000 students. After years of growth, it has become a leading and the only public comprehensive university in the SAR.
Sara Bosshart, RSC Head of Open Access, said: “This transformative agreement with the University of Macau marks another landmark moment as we contribute to the OA transformation in the Greater China area. We are fully confident that the high-quality research from Macau will impact the global science community in the long run."
This historic agreement is the latest in a series of pilot models the Royal Society of Chemistry plans to roll out to its global institutional customer base to support the transition of RSC-owned journals to Open Access by 2028. The RSC aims for the majority of its authors to be covered by institutional OA agreements by the time it transitions to OA.
“I am glad to see UM become the first institution in Macao to participate in transitioning research output to open access on the RSC’s platform, which benefits the global and local communities from the free access to the UM scientific outcomes,” said Professor Rui Martins, Vice Rector (Global Affairs) of the University of Macau.
