The South India Local Section is committed to the advancement of chemistry by conducting a number of programmes in universities, colleges and high schools. The outreach conducted in schools includes a lecture and demo session which has helped students to understand the importance of chemistry in our daily lives. Some of the programmes were conducted in schools that offer free education, boarding and lodging to disadvantaged students and orphans.
During the pandemic, the section attracted two Nobel Laureates, Professor Robert Grubbs (Caltech, USA) and Professor J M Lehn (CNRS, Strasbourg, France), to deliver lectures. This helped inspire students to take up research in chemistry and make a significant contribution to the science and technology which ultimately benefits humankind. Several programmes were conducted in which research scientists from industry actively participated and shared their expertise with the students. They also took part in a CHEMCAREERS event to inform undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as research scholars of the avenues open to them in the industry.
The series of special lectures on different chemistry topics has enabled postgraduate students to understand the subject better and motivated them to prepare for national and international level assessment examinations. The section has made significant impact in science exhibitions conducted by the higher education department of the state government to popularise science. The teacher training programmes organised by the section were intended for chemistry teachers to take up activity-based learning.
I am very much delighted to learn that our RSC South India chapter has been chosen for this year’s Inspirational Committee Award. The entire team in the committee feel that this recognition will make us strive hard to help the chemists’ community better.
I am elated to learn that our RSC South India section has been selected to receive the Inspirational Committee Award. It is indeed delightful news! I take this opportunity to thank all our colleagues who made very sincere efforts and undertook hard work in organising all the events of our section! I believe such recognition will encourage us to reach the younger chemists, perform still better, and realise the goals of RSC. We also appreciate the committee for recognising our section for our sincere contributions and outreach.
Great News! Hearty congratulations to all the concerned!! For all the hard work done during the last 10 years or so, we certainly deserved the recognition!
As always, we will continue our journey to support RSC activities with extra strength and commitment.
I am extremely happy to learn this news.
