These grants are available to assist members in running their own scientific activities and meetings.

Grants for events

Inclusion & Diversity Fund

Provides grants of up to £5,000 for activities that promote and support inclusion and diversity in the chemical sciences and demonstrate relevance to our strategy.

Scientific Meetings Grant

Grants of up to £2,000 are available to members to support their own scientific meetings. The aim is to support advances in research, develop networks and foster the next generation of researchers.

These grants support attendance at conferences of any area of chemistry.

Assistance grants

With our Assistance Grants, you can now apply for financial assistance of up to £1,000 per year to help chemists who require additional support to attend professional events such as a meeting, conference, workshop or professional development event.

Grants for carers

With our Grants for Carers, you can apply for up to £1,000 per year to help you attend a chemistry-related meeting, conference or workshop or a professional development event. This money would be used to cover any additional costs you incur, paying for care that you usually provide.

Travel Grants for PhD Students and Early Career Scientists

Up to £800 is available for travel for PhD students and chemical scientists (including technicians) within 10 years of leaving full time education.

These grants each support attendance at conferences on a specific area of chemistry.

Alan Tetlow Memorial Bursary

Grants of up to £2,000 are available to encourage those in the early stages of their career and those returning from a career break to develop their career in water science. Grants can be used to attend conferences and training courses, visiting the laboratories of collaborators and to support their research projects.

Analytical Biosciences Group Bursaries

The Analytical Biosciences Group offers bursaries up to the value of £500 to allow suitably qualified, UK-based scientists working in the area of analytical biosciences to attend conferences, symposia etc.

Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund Overseas Conference Travel Grants

Apply for up to £500 to attend an analytical chemistry-related overseas conference. Available to PhD students at UK or Irish higher education institutions who are members of the Analytical Division.

Atomic Spectroscopy Group Travel Bursary

Grants of up to £500 are available for early career members of the Atomic Spectroscopy Group to present their work at national and international conferences.

Automated and Analytical Management Group Student Bursaries

Travel bursaries are available for students who wish to attend scientific meetings run by the Automated and Analytical Management Group (AAMG).

Brian Scarlet Scholarship Fund

Bursaries of up to £250 are available to student members of the Particle Characterisation Group to attend conferences in the field of particle characterisation. Full members of the group may also apply for support.

British Carbon Group Bursary

Travel bursaries of up to £200 for international conferences and £75 for UK based conferences are available for students.

D H Richards Memorial Bursary

Grants of up to £300 are available to student members of the Macro Group UK to attend important conferences in their field.

Electrochemistry Group Student Bursary Scheme

Financial support is available for postgraduate student members of the Electrochemistry Group who wish to attend a major electrochemistry conference taking place outside of their country of residence.

Gordon J Tiddy Travel Bursary

Grants of up to £500 are available to members of the Formulation Science and Technology Group (FSTG) to support their attendance at conferences which have not been wholly organised by the FSTG within the UK.

The Nucleic Acids Group Award

Bursaries of up to £300 are available for postgraduate students registered at a UK university to attend conferences or meetings organised by the Nucleic Acids Group.

Radiochemistry Group Young Researchers’ Fund

Grants of up to £500 are available to early career members of the Radiochemistry Group to discuss and disseminate their work in radiochemistry.

Rideal Travel Bursaries

Bursaries of up to £500 are available for our members and standard or student members of the SCI to attend international conferences in the general field of colloid and surface science or to visit relevant research institutions for a study visit.

These grants are available to members (some grants also available to non-members) wishing to travel to build research collaborations or to provide or receive training.

Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund Developing World Scholarship

Grants of up to £5000 are available for citizens of developing countries to visit the UK or Ireland for up to 3 months to acquire new analytical science knowledge or experience of analytical science teaching or learning methods which can then be applied back in the home country.

Tom West Analytical Fellowship

The Tom West Analytical Fellowship, worth £15,000, has been established to assist early career analytical chemists within five years of their first full-time junior academic appointment at a UK or Irish higher education institute to establish their own independent analytical science research identity.

Technician Skills Development Grant

Grants of up to £7000 are available to support technicians working in all sectors (for example industry, academia, education or research) to undertake short to mid-term visits to organisations overseas or within their current country of residence, with the aim of developing skills to support their career progression.

Technician Travel and Training Grant

Our Technician Travel and Training Grant supports technicians working in all sectors (for example industry, academia, education or research) to participate in activities such as conferences, training courses and networking events both overseas and in their country of residence, to facilitate their professional development.

The Royal Society - Royal Society of Chemistry International Exchanges Award

Awards are available to support collaboration in the chemical sciences between the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa). Up to £12,000 is available for each 2 year award and up to £2,000 of this can be used to fund research costs. This scheme is open to members and non-members of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Applications must be made through the International Exchanges Standard Programme from the Royal Society.

Analytical Chemistry Summer Studentships

The purpose of the Analytical Chemistry Summer Studentships is to give experience of research to undergraduates with research potential and to encourage them to consider a career in Analytical Chemistry research on completion of their undergraduate degree. Chemistry Education: Activating Research bursaries

These bursaries help members of the Royal Society of Chemistry to activate and energise their research in the field of chemistry education. They are available for attending and presenting at conferences or arranging collaboration with established researchers in the USA, focusing on learning and teaching in higher education.

Researcher Development Grants

Apply to the Royal Society of Chemistry's Researcher Development Grant for grants of up to £250 for activities that will help you develop skills for your research career.

Research Enablement Grant

Our Research Enablement Grant supports members in the UK and Ireland with limited access to research funding looking to explore new research directions or to progress research disrupted by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Research Fund

The Research Fund provides up to £4,000 to assist members of the RSC at a university or college conducting their own research by the provision of grants.

Researcher Mobility Grants

For PhD students and early career researchers within 10 years post-PhD, Researcher Mobility Grants of up to £5,000 are available for collaboration with overseas or UK organisations.

Tom West Analytical Fellowship

The Tom West Analytical Fellowship, worth £15,000, has been established to assist early career analytical chemists within five years of their first full-time junior academic appointment at a UK or Irish higher education institute to establish their own independent analytical science research identity.

Young Researchers' Fund

Run by the Radiochemistry Group, the Young Researchers’ Fund is for the promotion radiochemistry by encouraging young scientists to discuss and disseminate their work during their radiochemistry training period. This is commonly for attendance and travel to conferences, symposia, workshops etc.

Teacher Training Scholarships

We are offering scholarships to individuals with the potential to become exceptional chemistry teachers. Each scholar will receive a £28,000 bursary from the Department for Education. They will also receive mentoring, resources and CPD throughout their teacher training year.

We're looking for individuals who are passionate about teaching, have a background in chemistry and want to train to teach in England.

Outreach Fund

Our Outreach Fund provides financial support to encourage and support the development of projects that raise awareness of chemistry in people's everyday lives, especially those not already interested in chemistry.

Educational Grants Scheme

The Biological and Medicinal Chemistry Sector (BMCS), one of our member-led Interest Groups, has been providing funds for small educational projects in schools and colleges for many years. The unifying theme of all of these projects has been their common objective of enhancing the learning and teaching experience in relation to chemistry.

Grants to support RSC members and member networks to develop and deliver events during Chemistry Week in November 2021 will be announced later in 2021. These grants are an opportunity for our members to share their passion for chemistry within their local communities.
