Micropipette dropping liquid into test tubes

This classroom-based course covers all the considerations and strategic steps for method development, troubleshooting and maintenance. It is packed full of examples and practical tips, makes full use of props (instrument parts and consumables which are handled and used for demonstration purposes), includes questions throughout the course and a Q&A session at the end of each day making it the course to attend for lots of useful GC & GC-MS knowledge.

On day 1 we guide you in how to plan and organise the method development process, with a number of recommended strategies, with presentations working through the individual components of the GC & GC-MS system (including sampling techniques), identifying the parameters for optimisation, then detailing further. You will then implement the knowledge gained through practical method development case studies. Following this, we detail the steps of method validation and the benefits of accreditation. The day ends by taking a brief look at advanced techniques to help solve those very tricky applications including Mass Spectral Interpretation, Selective Discrimination, Fast GC, Deconvolution, Two-Dimensional GC (GC+GC & GCxGC) and Chemometrics.

Day 2 details strategies and processes for GC & GC-MS troubleshooting. For each component of the GC & GC-MS system we identify the problem areas followed by recognition of the consumables and parts requiring maintenance. The course material includes interactive problem solving questions to allow you to implement the strategies learned.

At the end of the course you will have in-depth knowledge of how to approach method development and validation. You will also have learned what areas of the instrument require maintenance and the logical steps in troubleshooting.
