Find out more Back
This course is taught live in a virtual classroom through interactive, instructor-led training with instrument parts and consumables shown and explained. Small group sizes with plenty of opportunities to ask questions through live Q&A.
This module looks at the different types of GC columns; the different types of stationary phases and analyte interactions; the different dimensions and stationary phase thicknesses and how to choose them.
It looks at the analyte peak shapes and the factors affecting these, along with the calculations of the important chromatographic terms for column performance. Finally, the GC column oven is considered along with the influence of temperature on the separation.
At the end of the course, delegates will have an understanding of how separations occur in gas chromatography, how to select a GC column, how to determine the quality of the GC separation and have an understanding of the role of the GC column oven and temperature.
This is module 4 of the Virtual Classroom Training: Practical Essentials of GC & GC-MS (total 18 hours) and the Virtual Classroom Training: Complete GC & GC-MS (total 30 hours).
Prerequisites
This course is for those who have limited knowledge of gas chromatography and would like to learn more about this particular section of the instrument.
