Structure & Governance


The RSC is the UK Professional Body for chemical scientists and an international Learned Society for advancing the chemical sciences.

Supported by a network of over 44,000 members worldwide and an internationally acclaimed publishing business, our activities span education and training, conferences and science policy, and the promotion of the chemical sciences to the public.

RSC Council

RSC Council Members are the Trustees of the RSC and oversee the running of the charity. RSC Council meets five times a year.

Elections and Vacancies

There are currently four vacancies for Elected Members of Boards to serve from the 2008 AGM

Annual General Meeting

The 2008 AGM will be held in Burlington House, London on 9 July.

General Assembly

Every year the RSC organises a General Assembly over a two day period

Charter & By-Laws

The original Charter was granted in 1848

Final Report of the Learned & Professional Review Group  Members only restricted content

The current governance structure was introduced at the AGM in July 2007.
