This course is packed full of examples and practical tips, with instrument parts and consumables to see and Q&A sessions, making it the course to attend for lots of useful GC knowledge.

The course covers the following topics. Delegates can choose to attend the whole course or individual modules to improve their knowledge in a particular area:

• An introduction to GC and GC-MS;
• Gases and plumbing;
• Sample introduction covering split, splitless, on-column and large volume injection techniques;
• Analytical columns;
• GC detectors;
• Mass selective detectors;
• Data analysis;
• Sampling techniques including headspace, SPME, pyrolysis, thermal desorption, purge & trap, liquid-liquid and solid-phase extraction.

At the end of the course delegates will have in-depth knowledge, from the practical point of view, of GC and GC-MS and a good understanding of the importance of good chromatography. They will have learned how to select the sampling technique, carrier gas, sample introduction technique, column and GC detector or mass spectrometer and know how to undertake data analysis.

Pre-requisites

This course is for those who have a basic knowledge of gas chromatography and would like to greatly enhance it. For complete beginners it is advisable to attend the Absolute Basics of GC & GC-MS first.
