Course description

This online course covers all the considerations and strategic steps for method development, troubleshooting and maintenance. It is packed full of examples and practical tips, with instrument parts and consumables to see and includes questions throughout the course making it the course to attend for lots of useful GC & GC-MS knowledge.

The course guides you in how to plan and organise the method development process, with a number of recommended strategies, with presentations working through the individual components of the GC & GC-MS system (including sampling techniques), identifying the parameters for optimisation, then detailing further. You will then implement the knowledge gained through practical method development case studies. Following this, we detail the steps of method validation and the benefits of accreditation. The course then takes a brief look at advanced techniques to help solve those very tricky applications including Mass Spectral Interpretation, Selective Discrimination, Fast GC, Deconvolution, Two-Dimensional GC (GC+GC & GCxGC) and Chemometrics.

The second part of the course details strategies and processes for GC & GC-MS troubleshooting. For each component of the GC & GC-MS system we identify the problem areas followed by recognition of the consumables and parts requiring maintenance. The course material includes interactive problem solving questions to allow you to implement the strategies learned.

This module is taught live in a virtual classroom through interactive, instructor-led training with instrument parts and consumables shown and explained, case studies to work through and chromatograms to troubleshoot. Small group sizes with plenty of opportunities to ask questions through live Q&A.

This course is a total of 12.75 hours.

This is a modular course, delegates can choose to attend the whole course or individual modules to focus on a particular area:

Module 9: Applied Method Development for GC & GC-MS
Module 10: An Introduction to Advanced Techniques in GC & GC-MS
Module 11: Applied GC & GC-MS Maintenance
Module 12: Applied Troubleshooting for GC & GC-MS

At the end of the course you will have in-depth knowledge of how to approach method development and validation. You will also have learned what areas of the instrument require maintenance and the logical steps in troubleshooting.

Pre-requisites

The GC & GC-MS Clinic course course is for those who have reasonable gas chromatography experience or have attended the Practical Essentials of GC & GC-MS or the Complete Hands-on GC & GC-MS courses.
