Qiang Zhang, Editor-in-Chief
Tsinghua University, China
Dr. Qiang Zhang received MSc and PhD degrees from Tsinghua University, China. After his postdoc at Case Western Reserve University and Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society, he joined Tsinghua University. Now he is a full Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Tsinghua University.
His group mainly focuses on advanced energy chemistry and energy materials, including dendrite-free lithium metal anodes, lithium sulfur batteries, electrolytes, solid state batteries, and energy electrocatalysis, especially the structure design and full demonstration of advanced energy materials in working devices.
He received a Zhaowu Tian award from the International Society of Electrochemistry, a Science and Technology Award for Chinese Youth, a Distinguished Young Faculty of Ministry of Education, an Xplorer prize, and a Young Scientist Sustainable Development Goals Award. He won the first prize for Natural Science of the Ministry of Education and the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

ORCID: 0000-0001-9390-0830
Dr. Xin Li received his bachelor’s degree in physics from Nanjing University, China, his doctor’s degree in materials science and engineering at Pennsylvania State University and performed postdoctoral research at California Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining Harvard in 2015. Now he is an associate professor of materials science at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University.
His research group designs energy-related materials and devices through advanced synthesis, characterization, and simulation, with the current focus on Li and Na ion batteries, solid-state batteries, and unconventional superconductors. The group is particularly interested in obtaining a unified understanding about how microscopic interactions govern emergent performance-relevant phenomena in energy storage and strongly correlated materials.
He is the Winner of Falling Walls Foundation Breakthroughs Engineering and Technology, received LG Global Innovation Contest Awards, and MassCEC Catalyst Award. He founded Adden Energy, Inc., aiming at commercializing all-solid-state batteries for electrical vehicle applications.
Seung-Wan Song, Associate Editor
Chungnam National University, South Korea
ORCID: 0000-0003-4208-206X
Seung-Wan Song is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Chungnam National University (CNU) in South Korea. Dr. Song received her PhDs in Chemistry from Seoul National University and in Materials Science and Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology. Prior to joining CNU, she worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a postdoc and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a postdoctoral research staff member in the USA.
Her group’s research focus lies on the design and development of liquid electrolytes and solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and interface stabilization for various anodes and cathodes in Li-ion batteries, Li metal (liquid, semi-solid-state), Li-sulfur, Mg and Na-ion batteries, and a basic understanding of electrochemical and interfacial processes responsible for the performance, cycle-life and safety of batteries.
She received an Achievement Award from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea in recognition of her distinguished contribution to battery industry growth, and a Distinguished Faculty of Engineering College and Achievement Award from Chungnam National University, and Achievement Award from the Korean Electrochemical Society. She is the inventor of non-flammable organic liquid electrolytes for safe Li-ion batteries.
