Julia Kubanek is currently Professor of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry and Associate Dean of Research in the College of Sciences at Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, USA. She received her BSc in Chemistry from Queen’s University, Canada, in 1991 and her PhD at the University of British Columbia in 1998. Her postdoctoral research was at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Kubanek’s areas of interest include marine chemical ecology, natural products, metabolomics, chemical biology, and drug discovery. She has authored approximately 80 research articles on plankton chemical ecology, coral reef chemical ecology, and marine natural product discovery and biosynthesis. She was awarded the Silverstein-Simeone Award of the ISCE and elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2012.
