16th International Conference on Materials Chemistry
The 16th International Conference on Materials Chemistry (MC16) took place at University College Dublin between 3rd and 6th July 2023.
After thirty years, the International Conference on Materials Chemistry continues to be extremely popular. MC15 was held entirely online due to COVID, this year the event was held as a hybrid meeting with over 500 registered delegates.
This year there were four themes:
- Approaches to material design and discovery
- Future materials
- Materials for energy
- Materials for life
Each theme had 29 oral presentations, a total of 126, and there were 357 posters presented in total.
Of the invited speakers, several were RSC prize winners, including, Paul Attfield (2022 John B Goodenough Prize), Maria Escudero-Escribano (2021 JMC Lectureship), Andrew Dove (2022 Corday-Morgan Prize), Chad Mirkin (2021 de Gennes Prize), Marina Freitag (2022 Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize), Andrew Beale (2022 Peter Day Prize) and were presented with their medals at the conference.
Additional sessions were provided by the RSC, including, publishing with impact, careers in chemistry, and the ourcomes and recommendations from the Sustainable Laboratories Report, which was presented by the Materials Chemistry Community Programme Manager, Philip Stackhouse.
Delegates and conference organisers praised the high quality of oral and poster presentations, the organisation of the conference and the excellent facilities at University College Dublin.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at MC17 in 2025.
