Hands Free and Hands On!

Over 160 A level students and their teachers visited the Science Learning Centre in Leicester to discover the chemistry behind the mobile phone.  They participated in workshops to make chemical displays, work on solar cells and discover how nanotechnology is used to build chips.

Workshops were provided by partner chemistry departments in the East Midlands and Astrazeneca, an important chemistry employer in the region.

The day also included exam tips and a chemistry quiz.  This outreach event was designed to enthuse and inspire students to continue on to study chemical sciences at degree level.  Film footage of the event is available via the link.
