Conference on Carbon Capture and its Utilization

14 - 15 December 2018, Pune, India

This event is by invitation only

Introduction
The Royal Society of Chemistry has partnered with the Chemical Engineering & Process Development Division of the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), a constituent of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India, in organizing a conference on Carbon Capture and Its Utilization (CCU) at the CSIR - National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune on December 14-15, 2018.

India is the world’s fourth largest emitter of greenhouse gases (GHG). CO2 (a greenhouse gas) emissions are the major source of global climate change also known as global warming. The consequences of climate change could be utterly catastrophic unless we act very soon. One option for future is to switch to renewable energy that produces less CO2, while the other most viable option in the current phase is to prevent the CO2 released by burning fossil fuels from entering the atmosphere. This is called carbon capture and storage (CCS) and it's currently one of the hot topics in the field of energy technology.

To reduce the cost of transportation and sequestration of captured CO2 at designated sites, one can also opt for conversion of CO2 to value-added products. This could be done at the site where the CO2 is produced saving the cost of transportation and sequestration. Other equally important topics in the field are development of novel materials for Energy storage devices such as batteries and fuel cells. The carbon capture theme is greatly supported by the Government of India which encourages investments in clean energy driven by policy incentives schemes. The conference also aims to promote exchange of ideas and create an opportunity for collaborative endeavors between participants from academia and industry in the frontier interdisciplinary ideas.

With this view in mind, a conference on Carbon Capture and Its Utilization (CCU) has been organized at the CSIR - National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune on December 14-15, 2018.

The conference would be jointly held in collaboration with The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). This conference will help to bring out the significance of this field in the industrial sector and influence of it on the global climate change
