RSC–UCL Particle Characterisation Training Day 2026 Main Image

RSC PCIG is delighted to announce a one-day Particle Characterisation Training Workshop, taking place on 2 December 2026 at University College London (UCL). Organised in collaboration with the UCL Faculty of Engineering Sciences Technical Staff Network, the workshop will feature expert-led sessions on dynamic light scattering, laser diffraction, particle tracking analysis and image analysis, welcoming participants of all experience levels.

This annual training workshop is designed primarily for technical staff and facility managers who operate and manage particle characterisation facilities and support researchers with sample preparation, measurement, data quality assessment and data analysis. It also welcomes Master’s and PhD students, postdoctoral research associates (PDRAs), and other researchers who wish to develop their knowledge and practical understanding of particle characterisation techniques.

Whether you are new to these techniques or an experienced user looking to strengthen your expertise, this workshop will provide valuable opportunities to learn from specialists, improve your understanding of measurement methods and data interpretation, and exchange knowledge with colleagues across the research and technical community.

Training Topics

The programme will cover four widely used particle characterisation techniques:

  • Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS)
  • Laser Diffraction
  • Particle Tracking Analysis (PTA)
  • Image Analysis

Expert speakers from Malvern Panalytical, BMS and Analytik will deliver specialist training and share their knowledge and experience. Sessions will focus on developing effective measurement methods, improving sample preparation practices, assessing data quality and interpreting results with confidence.

Who Should Attend?

This event is particularly suitable for:

  • Technical staff and facility managers responsible for operating and managing particle characterisation facilities.
  • Technical specialists who support researchers with sample preparation, instrument operation and data analysis.
  • Master’s and PhD students, PDRAs, and other researchers interested in particle characterisation.
  • Beginners who want to build a foundation in these techniques, as well as experienced users who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Why Attend?

  • Access free, expert-led training from specialists in particle characterisation.
  • Develop a better understanding of measurement methods, sample preparation and data quality.
  • Strengthen your ability to interpret particle characterisation results.
  • Exchange knowledge and experiences with technical staff, facility managers and researchers from across the community.

Costs

Students who are RSC members     £20

Students not RSC members               £30

RSC member                                             £30

RSC non member                                    £50

Note: Attendance is free for UCL staff, students and external users, but registration is required. Places are limited to 40 participants, so early registration is encouraged.

We look forward to welcoming you to UCL for a day of learning, discussion and knowledge sharing.
